Children & Young Adults
We all want our children to have the best start in life, and that applies to their dental health too. Rosemary welcomes you to bring your children to the practice at an early age.
The more your child is used to the sights and sounds of the dental practice, the more comfortable they're going to feel about going.
Good dental health from an early age will set your child up for life. As soon as the teeth start to come through, you should start brushing you are advised to brush their teeth for them using a small child's toothbrush and Fluoride toothpaste. Even older children may not have the correct technique be able to brush their teeth and gums properly and may need adult help for longer than you think.
With our good prevention and diet advice most of our young people go on to have healthy teeth and gums into adulthood. It is our practice to continue seeing our young people through their further education years as NHS patients, often a transition period as they leave home and familiar routines.
Contact Sports can often result in dental trauma and we strong advice the use of gum shields which can be made at the practice. See Immediate dental need for advice on lost teeth.
Children's teeth often come through twisted and in the wrong place this is known as a mal occlusion, and can often cause problems with brushing and eating. A mal-occlusion can be corrected and teeth straightened to produce a healthier bite. This is carried out by an orthodontist who is a specialist dentist. At Parrys Lane we are very lucky to have a consultant orthodontist who comes to the practice and there are also several excellent specialist orthodontic practices locally to refer too.
